Aware of the issue that AI-based surveillance cameras and customer analytics are labeling people based on their appearance, we launched textile label UNLABELED and developed camouflage patterns that evade AI labeling.

HUMAN PERSPECTIVE

By defeating AI's labeling of who you are, UNLABELED reminds people that the right to choose their own identity belongs to them. And because fashion represents who you are, we designed the clothes with UNLABELED patterns.

CHALLENGE

In the taxi, AI forces “men” to watch shaving cream commercials regardless of their real gender. At the airport, your identity is identified and can be labeled as “dangerous”. The system transforms our everyday behavior into data and abuses it for efficiency and pursuit of profit. As a countermeasure against the arrival of this surveillance capitalist society, the project has been started.

PROCESS

We developed camouflage patterns to prevent AI from recognizing a person”. Utilizing a technique called “Adversarial Patch” that induces false recognition by adding a specific pattern to an image or video, this method lets AI cause misrecognition, miss objects or recognize objects as something different.
