Dentsu Lab

Project

A personal, one-of-a-kind workstation that allows Karwei’s customers to digitally redecorate their home by scanning physical products in-store.

Business Challenge

People visit Karwei stores to touch, feel and experience product samples, but find it difficult to imagine how these products will look in their home. We were tasked to build a concept that helps customers with their home makeover journey in store.

Human Perspective

The Karwei Style Studio bridges the gap between retail and home, to help customers visualise products in their spaces, avoid ordering products they regret and realise their makeover goals. When shopping for products such as floors or curtains, samples are small in size and can be difficult to picture in setting. By using 3D floor plans and scannable samples, customers see everything coming together digitally.

“Decorating isn’t easy, but Karwei Style Studio allows customers to bring their imagination to life via a digital workbench, providing an easy solution for any interior makeover.”

Lab Process

The process began with a three week innovation sprint, ideating, prototyping and testing the concept with Karwei. After validation, the prototype for the Style Studio was implemented in store.

OUTCOME

The final result consisted of three main steps: Sketching a room and it will magically transform into a 3D floor plan. This gives customers more time to explore products and styles. Scanning floor, wall or curtain samples in store and add them to a digital collection. Digital samples can also be collected by browsing and filtering the full catalogue. Styling samples to preview them in the 3D.

OUTCOME

When customers are satisfied with the result, they can print or email their new room, complete with a shopping list and quantity estimates.
